Great Falls of the Potomac


Great Falls of the Potomac has quite a bit of water flowing through it, in many different parts, so although it is only about 50 feet tall, it is an interesting place. The many side channels should be interesting to photographers.

Driving DirectionsUse Capital Beltway (I 495) exit 41 (Carderock/Great Falls/Clara Barton Parkway) west. Continue 1.6 miles to a T intersection with MacArthur Boulevard and turn left. Go about 4.5 miles to the park entrance.
Walking DirectionsFor the Maryland overlook, take the towpath downriver. Near lock 17, a path heads off to the right. Cross several bridges to reach the viewing area.

Driving DirectionsUse Capital Beltway (I 495) exit 44 (VA 193 - Georgetown Pike) west. Continue on VA 193 for 4 miles to the "Great Falls Park" entrance on the right.
Walking DirectionsThe Virginia overlook is just behind the visitor center.
